If I had to take a guess, then I would say that you probably have something that was welded around right now. The buildings surrounding you, the buildings you’re in, every car, traffic lights, bridges, theme park rides, like roller coasters, trains, and more than a hundred thousand million important functions and machines that we humans interact with every single day of our lives.

Joining together two metals is so simple, that it can be easily overlooked and forgotten, maybe unappreciated, and to be fair, its completely understandable because humanity is just absolutely surrounded by it, it’s an average normal thing for us, something that isn’t thought about.

Every major component of our lives absolutely involves welding, and honestly, we would not be at the point in our lives, technologically or otherwise, without welding. It is something that we should point out is important and acknowledge that it is. So, for your convenience, here is a list of reasons of why welding is just so darn important to humanity, and all the reasons that in general the importance of welding.

 An Experts opinion

You may or may not have heard of the American Welding Society (AWS), but they are one of the leading groups on welding in the world, and obviously in America. The president of this group is David McQuaid, and he has some pretty clear-cut opinions on welding, and their importance to everyday life, and its advancements in technology, and comfort. “Welding is an essential part of everyday life. From cars to high rise office buildings, airplanes to rockets, pipelines to highways, none of it would be possible without welding.”

It would seem that David McQuaid and I share an appreciation for welding, and hopefully he’s enough to convince you on its importance, but that is doubtful, so we’ll be continuing. 

Continuing with Mr. McQuaid, according to him and his research, there is going to a significant decrease in welders. By the year 2025, welders are going to drop all the way down to only 400,000, which is pretty bad considering the fact that welding is a part of the human infrastructure, which means that the stability of civilization is going to get shaken up in a pretty bad way.

The solution, according to him, is a simple one. Simply encourage the next generation, the younger population to start taking up welding, make it a career that they will enjoy, and they’ll want to keep welding going. Which would solve the problem of having so little welders that society would be able to progress as quick a rate as it is now.

Right now, welding is not that great of a job, to be completely honest. It’s low paying, dangerous in some scenario’s, and not quite as held in high esteem as other such careers are. There is also the fact that welders only make around $65,000 annually, which is not bad money at all, but they could certainly do better in the financial department. They could try to be a doctor, lawyer, or some such if their goal is to make as much money as possible.

So, to get the younger generation to want to be a part of the welding industry, a few things are going to need a change. First, maybe give the average welder a raise, maybe just a 10% increase, which would bump it up to around $70,000. Make it easier to pick up and learn, so as to avoid unnecessary dangers that can happen. Other solutions are probably out there as well that we haven’t researched yet, but the answer will hopefully be a simple one. Those simple things that were dealing with now can be easily solved.

How Welding Helps the Economy

Now, as I said before, welding is extremely important as it is what literally connects the world together with metal. The buildings that we construct need welding, to keep it from falling, and to make it functional. Cars need welding to make it safe and dependable on the road, it won’t fall apart when you hit 70 miles an hour because of welding. Trains are made with welding, transporting goods and people all around the world in order to keep everything running.

Let’s say hypothetically, that we didn’t have welding to begin with. The few, just three things, that we just talked about would not be a thing, trains, cars, and building’s bigger than two stories, would not be a thing. Imagine not having those three simple things, how would that affect you and your life?

It’s honestly something that is difficult to think about, we’ve never had to live without it. Now, those three things would be really bad to not have but imagine all the other things that we wouldn’t have. Computers originally needed welding to build, ships, armor, appliances, and another billion things. I could list hundreds of thousands of examples from that list of billions, but it would honestly take too long, and by the first few hundred examples, you would probably have already got the message. Plus, a regular old list isn’t any fun.

So, we don’t have those things in this scenario, what things would we have, all our stuff would be gone, that list would be gone. So, that alone would not be great, but let’s look to the future.

How about a new hypothetical, let’s say that right now, we have welding and we have been advancing up to this point due to welding. Now, let’s say that welding has just completely disappeared, in this very second, we know we had welding, and that it was advancing, but for some reason or another it’s gone, maybe due to not having any welders left to weld, but we don’t have it anymore.

What would that mean? It would simply mean that humanity stops advancing. We have no more stuff to look forward to, on more advancement, that list that we said was completely gone, now it just stops growing, no more stuff. We have to settle for the computers, phones, cars, trains, buses, boats, yachts, rides, roller coasters, game systems, and again, a hundred thousand, million, billion, trillion other things.

Humanity as we would know it will not advance anymore because we don’t have welding. Imagine that we’ve been looking for proper space travel for decades, and all of a sudden that dream humanities had is now gone.

Basically, not having welding really is just the worst, what we have wouldn’t have what we have now if we didn’t have welding, and we wouldn’t be able to progress if we didn’t have the welding we do today, to make advancements for tomorrow.

Economic Strength

One last hypothetical let’s say that again, welders have suddenly disappeared right this second. Now, again in this scenario lets ignore the fact that we wouldn’t advance, we already covered how important it is. Let’s instead focus on the here and now concerning welding. What would happen to us right now if we didn’t have welding?

We would not be able to keep any sort of economy standing for more than a few decades, at best. Why is that you may be asking? Well, if there wasn’t welding and our stuff, like cars, and rides, and buildings are constantly breaking and deteriorating, how would we be able to fix the pieces of metal, that have been rusting under the cruel weather are snapped right in half. For example Michigan welding handles 90% of the manufacturing of cars, how would you like to never have a new car?

We wouldn’t be able to weld and fix any of those things ever again, it’s a one-time thing for any of those important parts of our infrastructure. Trust me when we say that duct tape and glue is only going to take us so far. All of our broken-down things would just be gone, and that above all is probably the worst, because we would not only not advance as a society, we would instead be going backwards, we would regress in order to make up for the things we lost.

All around, anyone of these scenarios and hypotheticals would be terrible, we would either be stuck with what we have now, not have had any of them in first place, and/or lose them after they break. All due to not having proper welding done in order to keep it all on track for humanity.

Recap on Welding’s Importance

We have pretty clearly established that welding is important, and we have given you some pretty good examples. First up we talked about an expert, David McQuaid, from the American Welding Society (AWS). He gave us some very interesting opinions on what’s going to be happening to welders by the year 2025, he says that there will be a shortage of 400,000 welders, which is quite insane considering the fact that welding is so darn important, and no one seems to want the job anymore. Though that can be solved by just making the job more desirable to a younger generation. Make the pay higher, make it safer for everyone involved, make it a more stable job, make sure that it’s an easier profession to get into. So, that’s something that we’ll need to keep an eye on if we don’t want the worlds infrastructure to collapse seeing as there won’t be anybody holding up such an important part of it. All of which can be easily accomplished with a bit of patience and ingenuity.

We talked through the three main scenario’s, each one’s outcome getting worse considering that welding is important in every aspect of the past, present and future. The first scenario that we covered was the one which explained what would happen if we didn’t have welding to begin with at the beginning of our progression. We wouldn’t have anything that we would today, the cars, the trains, buses, buildings, skyscrapers rockets, pipes, which is very important considering we need those for plumbing, and like I said before, a hundred million billion trillion zillion other things would be lost to use if we didn’t have welding right there from the start, so from the start it is established that welding is extremely important.

The second scenario that we ran through was the futures, what would happen if welding just suddenly disappeared from the face of the planet, how would that affect our future and economy’s progression into higher forms of living. Simply put, our progression would-be put-on hold, until we could find a welding substitute, if we even could. We would be stuck with what we have now, nothing would ever get better in the progression field. We would be stuck with the phones we have, the cars that we have, the ships, the planes, buildings, all of that we would be stuck with that alone.

Our third and final scenario is the one that is probably the worst, piled onto the others at least. If we suddenly lost welders and they were just gone, like the last scenario, how would that affect us in the present, and current time. In that case, if we just didn’t have welders, then we would start going backwards, we would regress instead of progress. If we didn’t have any welders than everything that we have, again, the cars, the buildings, the theme parks, the rockets, everything, would slowly start to break down now that there are no welders to go in and fix them when they break.  

Welding is extremely important, we can’t progress, can’t keep stable, and wouldn’t have had any of the amazing things we have today if we didn’t have the welding that is just so important. We need to make sure that there are welders to keep society standing, to make sure that we progress at a pace that won’t make us lose anything. We need to make sure that welding is always with us and that we don’t take it for granted. All of our stuff is made with welding, most of it anyways, and if we didn’t have it, all our favorite things would not exist, or just break down.

A variety of methods are used to first apply the filler material. Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is the common type that is utilized. This type of welding is used in industries practicing exerting a tight arc over a very narrow activity.

An arc is used to heat the filler material to the required temperature, and any sparks produced in the arc are removed.• The welding is carried out by a welder and the filler material is either a tungsten or a non-tungsten.• The welder may use a variety of welding code types while welding.• Welding is accomplished by using consumable electrodes that have greater flux than the parent material. The arc is utilized to melt the electrode and the filler material with these electrodes as the conductors.

Some materials require the use of specific techniques, some of which can be the very same welding processes that would be utilized for the application of the parent material or its consumable. Some of these techniques operate through the use of two slots, in which a filler wire is deposited on the material with a inert gas and then transmitted to the arc.

Journalism is another method that as it is widely used in the packaging industry. The partner (cable) is a strong wire braided or coiled wire electrode – semi-structured. The machine, with an attached tool called a small pump, attracts the wire electrode and instantly releases the Brazilian flux shielding gases that act like a pressure furnace.

Another type of welding is done by using an electric arc. This method is more complete and less costly than the other method mentioned. Because of the lower cost of electricity and because of the compatibility of the machines used for thermal shielding in it, this method is now acceptable in industrial plants that require all of the industry standard processes in sheet metal.

The welding process can be used for dissimilar metals. The goal is the same except for the filler material. Filler materials can range from anything from a high temperature stainless steel to a lower temperature Hobart weld or Braz*/.

Welding is a process that everyone can and should perform. This is especially helpful if you don’t have the traditional welding qualifications that are required for some kinds of material.

When working with other metals, such as stainless steel or titanium, you must have a certification that will allow you to work on the material using welding procedures that will provide an appropriate level of quality, so do a search for a weld shop near me.

Some of the common ways welder in sheet metal or stainless is called Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW), strip arc (SAW), or electric arc ( Paradox arc (pe) to name a few.

Welding actually utilizes an electric arc, and both of these electric forms are called tungsten and argon. The common name that is given to the gas is argon. This gas is a very non-toxic gas, but the nature of it causes corona when it comes near a electrical arc and this causes damage.

Laser welding is another type of welding that is used to create different forms of weldments. Lighted and Displacement. The laser is used to create the path and the arc is what does all of the work. A plasma cutter is used, and there is typically a consumable electrical arc axis to cut the molten metal.

If you wish to create different forms of objects with sheet metal or stainless, a few different types of welding are used. This may be daunting. Luckily, there are bodies of plastic called metall Kissers that are able to be Touch Milled and plasma welded together. These units are helpful in producing commercial contamination forms of metals.
